In this weed identification and treatment seminar, we’ll discuss the larger impacts of invasive plants on our natural resource gems, the common weeds we see in urban areas and treatment options for backyard infestations.

Weeds don’t care about fence lines. ARSACISMA is a coalition of natural resource organizations working across boundaries in the Big Bend area to tackle non-native weeds.

Join ARSA-CISMA members Mike Jenkins (Florida Forest Service) and Brian Pelc (The Nature Conservancy) to learn how managing weeds doesn’t need to stop at your property line either.  If you have plant questions, please consider bringing photos or plant samples with you.

The “Penny Pines” program was introduced by FFGC in Florida last year. You may remember that District III collected over $45 at our September District meeting in Monticello for the Penny Pines Program. This program has long been in existence across the country as a method to reseed, reforest, and preserve our National Forests. Our object this first year is to support reforestation of Florida’s three National Forests – Osceola, Apalachicola, and Ocala. Osceola alone has lost over 11,000 acres to fires in the past two years.

It’s easy, it’s quick, and it’s painless to help. Just collect pennies, change, or dollars in a jar at each Circle and Club meeting and forward to Helen Purvis, District III Treasurer. You may indicate which of the National Parks listed above you would like to benefit from your donations. Helen will send it on to FFGC Treasurer, Gina Jogan so District III gets credit for the donation.

PLEASE be sure to insert Florida or the name of one of Florida’s National Forests on the line “National Forest this donation is to benefit.” For additional information and forms, visit ffgc.org and click on projects, then NGC Penny Pines and print out flyers and additional forms.

James is a proponent of garden living and entertaining, or weaving the bounties of the garden into your daily life. He is featured in Southern Living Magazine and recently published his first book, A Time To Plant: Southern Style Garden Living.

Please join us for this very special General Membership Meeting where we will be honoring our long time members.

James will be our guest speaker and will have his book available for purchase and signing.  Non-members who attend may depart after the speaker, honorees program and luncheon, as TGC’s business meeting will continue afterward for elections of new trustees.
